| HISTORY´S
FIRST COUPLES´S GRAND SLAM? |
| JUNE 2011 |
| I was baffled at first when I asked
my long time casting students and Ascension Bay
regulers Brad and Kris about their days fishing.
They just gave a shrug of the shoulders and
answered, "tough day". Back at the club while
washing down the fly rods, Kris waved me over to her
table and said she had something to show me. Wow,
her second tarpon, after loosing ten in the course
of the three days. I tried to give her a
congratulatry high five, yet the photos just kept
flying across the lcd screen of her digital camara.
The two of them had actually shared the same skiff
and the same day to score a couple´s double Grand
Slam! First ever documented in Ascension Bay and
maybe anywhere. |

| A Face Only A
Mother (and the fly angler who nailed him) Could Love |
| MAY 2011 |
| You´re staring at the mug of a
"Real thirty-five
pound permit", pontificating upon what it could have
done differently, to stay away from the camera. Many
things to note here. Notice how a permit loses its
normal dinner plate shape once it is over 25 pounds.
It takes on the body shape of a large Jack Crevale
or Amberjack, and also has a distinct shoulder
hump. Permit also grow into their fins, just like a
puppy and his feet. You see many photos of smaller
permit where the dorsal fin is markedly long and out
of place. Think about puppy feet. That´s what I have
always called immature permit fins. Permit, like
puppies, grow into their fins. Closely look at this
permit´s eyes! Like a chameleon, they protrude
outward and can seemingly rotate to cover all angles
of view. Check out those huge holes in front of our
permit´s eyes. Those little holes are called nares,
and it is how permit smell so well! Lastly, let´s
take a look at that mouth. Hard rubber. Don´t be
afraid to set the hook. |

New Ascension
Bay Bonefish Record |
|
February 2010 |
| A perfect time and a perfect cast
equated to a new Women's bonefish record for this
lucky lady! Who says that Ascension Bay bonefish are
small? Maybe competing destinations that want you to
think such nonsense. Having fished multiple times in
Belize, Los Roques, and other exotic locales it only
took one cast for Kris to nail down her biggest
bonefish ever and a new Ascension Bay Women's record
bonefish on fly. This beautiful gal landed a 25'
inch, Santa Rosa bone that weighed 8.75 pounds using
a new secret fly. You are my hero! |

Bonefish |

January
2010 |
| The Brothers Graff pulled
off a week of great fishing. Scoring some
beautiful bonefish and snook while wading
the flats of Ascension Bay. Monster low
tides pushed the big snook out onto the
flats where they could be stalked in skinny
water while sight casting. |

November
2009 |
|
Tom and Mary visited for a few day with
their wonderful daughter Mia prior to Turkey
Day. Mia and the folks had a wonderful full
day trip to the Maya ruins of Muyil and
fishing/snorkeling their way back to Club
Grand Slam. They then spent a few days
honing their skills in the flats of
Ascension Bay with Tom scoring his first
ever tarpon on fly, Mary making her first
notch for bonefish on fly, and daughter Mia
deciding that she wants to get rid of her
normal bed and sleep in a hammock forever!
Great job guys. |
